April is Pink, First Painting in a Series

April 30, 2018

April is pink here in Raleigh, North Carolina. Early delicate blooms on Spring Magnolias herald a symphony of pinks which crescendo with the thunderous pinks of azaleas and rhododendrons. A perfect time to explore the color pink.

"A Good deal of Pink about it." (above) is my first painting on clear gessoed linen. The roll of pre-primed linen was on sale at Jerry's Artarama's Raleigh store and I was curious, but uncertain. What if I did not like it? It was a great deal of material for an experiment.  So the store clerk suggested, "wait, I will enquire and see if you can try it out, and if you don't like it, bring it back."

REALLY? on a clearance-marked roll?

He returned, "Yes, go ahead, see if it works for you."

Okay! I am now really  impressed. I am happy to say this material is a pleasure to work on (more on that in a later blog) but for now, thank-you Jerry's Artarama for consistently providing great customer service and great prices on a wide selection of art supplies.
