"I have learned to seek my happiness by limiting my desires, rather than in attempting to satisfy them." John Stuart Mill 1806-1873
I appreciated the original handwriting of these mis-laid letters so much, I decided to allow them primary placement in this collage of old letters, pressed leaves, lace and handmade papers. The author is attempting some discourse on combat. It is difficult to discern if he/she is writing from experience but the last page shows that the writer could not continue. It is left unfinished and scrawled out. I believe the woman's name that I pieced in was the recipient, either by default or design.
This is a quiet piece (11"x14") the light greens offsetting the browns. I wanted a gentle rendering with the chickadees reminding us that simple pleasures and life's contentments resurface, even after times of conflict. This piece will be available at 2016 Duke Hospital Holiday Invitational Art Show & Sale.
